You've got alot more ahead of you than just bolting up a turbo and going down the road tho. Thats a good way to be buying a new engine. Your going to need an exhaust manifold, becuase the mistu one won't bolt up to your engine(if you're getting that). You will also need intercooler piping as well as some exhaust work. The "missing link" you refer to is a cheapass way of tricking the ECU into not seeing boost. Thats great and all but you still need a way to fuel for boost, forcing more air into the engine results in the need for more fuel....unless you're just wanting to turn your engine into a big grenade.
This very possible to do, and can be done for cheaper than a "kit" if you take your time, and do a little learning along the way. The mistu T25 turbo that's on your friends spyder would be my choice for a 1.8L because it's so friggen tiny. But for just adding a good kick in the pants to your ride I think it would be a good starting place. I suggest you visit
www.homemadeturbo.com and do some digging in the forums to get aquainted with the world of forced induction. That is one of the best sites/forums for junkyard/homebrew turbo setups on the net, it's mostly honda specific. They have everything covered from exhaust, turbo, and intercooler setups, all the way to DIY engine management.
Learn and Enjoy.
