E-Brake question '00 ACCORD

Hi, this is my first post...
Wondering if anyone knew how to tighten the E-Brake? The bloody thing is so unpredicable I can't get it to drift correctly. I'm asking a question in reguard to a 2000 Honda Accord EX V6. Thanks!

With the car off, push in the button on the e-brake and pump it up/down a few times really fast. That should do it.

Pumping the lever gets the auto-adjuster to work, that's to compensate for brake pads wearing out.

There's an adjusting nut buried in the console, kinda behind the pivot point of the lever. That's for a stretched-out cable.

Don't use one adjustment to compensate for the other, they BOTH have to be right or else it'll probably just get worse.

I don't know... LanEvo7 asked about a 6th gen EX. That's got disks pretty much like my '98.

I've never heard of that in my entire life, I really can't see how that would work I say call someone before trying that cause in my opinion you'd end up breaking your cable or something else.

For the fourth gen.

f you remove your consoe by te brake lever you will notice a pair of cables beneath it with adjusting nuts on them....tighten these a little at a time (1 or 2 turns) then test the tension and test spin the car to make sure it isn't dragging the brakes.

defvayne....if you do not know then do not post BS comments like that because that can do more harm than good and its just plain messed up to give bad advice like that.

The reverse business is for lots of older cars with drum brakes. I don't know if Honda drum brakes self-adjust like that, but the EX has rear disks. They self-adjust by pulling the handbrake many times, you don't have to be moving.

Like I said, the adjuster nut in the console is for stretched cables. If the auto-adjust mechanism is screwed up, it won't help to adjust the cables.

Our '98 Accord EX has rear disks. My Helm book agrees...

I think either your gf's car isn't really an EX, or it was used as a donor car for someone who wanted rear disks.

She either has a DX or an LX 4 cylinder.

Or the SE..........only drum brakes in back (makes no sense to me either, I cant understand why they would bother making two sets of brakes for the same car). Good thing you get a sunroof though, that makes all the difference (EDIT: my bad, Edmunds says SE wasnt avail. in '98).

And the "use reverse to self-adjust" thing used to work on drum brakes. It still probably does, except most cars dont have drums in back anymore. Accord rear drums are probably the same as everyone elses, they have the little spur thing that pushes the pads against the drum. Thats the self-adjuster, and it adjusts itself while in reverse.

so i can just pump the e-brake a couple of times to adjust it? and that would also get rid of the "brake" light on the cluster?

My 95 EX has rear drums. Only the models with ABS have rear disks, I believe. I've always heard to pull the parking brake in reverse to adjust the parking brake as well. But every other way suggested should work.

Sorry, I'm officially a retard. It was late and lack of sleep allowed me to forget that I wasn't in the EX forum lol. My bad. BTW, I tried the E-brake pull trick and it didn't work on my gf's car. Gonna have to rip stuff apart I guess.

In my 90 civic, when my brake light turns on and the e-brake isnt pulled. its time for more brake fluid and then the light turns out. you might want to check the fluid level, just an idea.....
