Oil Catch Can DIY - FI'd B18C1 - large pics

I did a search online for the info about the oil catch can and couldn't find much. There's some stuff out there, but someone is either saying it's wrong after the post or it's theoretical and vague. This is an all inclusive post with pics so if you decide to do this install, this should be your one stop shop. Why a catch can? The oil catch can runs between your PCV valve and intake manifold - where the PCV would normally connect. The PCV valve allows for crank ventalation into the intake manifold. This can cause the intake manifold to get a lot of oil in it and can also cause power loss. The catch can catches the oil so that it doesn't go into your intake manifold, but still allows for the ventalation. The installation (large pics) Product: Greddy 9mm Oil Catch Can: Extra needs: more tubing and hose clamps First off, here's an image that qtiger drew up for me to show me where the can needs to be installed in line. I started by pulling the PCV valve out of the canister behind the block: Then I removed the PCV valve: I then decided where I was going to mount the dang thing. Because I have a turbo, I have a lot of extra room on my passenger's side strut tower so that seemed like a suitable place. I also had a factory threaded hole there for a 10mm bolt so it worked out perfectly. I bent the mounting bar that comes with the kit to sit the can where I wanted it. I was careful not to mount it too high up or it would hit my hood. I checked and triple checked the hood clearance before I went ahead and painted the bar and made the final mount. I then ran the tubing from the already existing line that used to connect to the PCV valve using a "T" fitting I had laying around. I will make an update to this when I can get under there and run the hose directly to the nipple on the underside of the intake, but this will work fine for now. Next, I ran another line from the PCV valve itself and then plugged the valve back into the canister. I then plugged the lines into the catch can and zip tied everything together... pretty simple. Here's the final image: Sidenote If you're running your valve cover breather line to a mini-filter you may want to rethink this. I did some research and found that it's actually important to run this to your intake pipe (preturbo for you FI applications) because it can cause your piston rings not to seal all the way and allow for oil to bypass the rings. I went ahead and had the local muffler shop put a nipple onto my intake pipe preturbo today. This information may not be 100% accurate, but can it really hurt to run this line? Here's the pics: No one would ever know, but that adapter for my Apexi filter is a toilet flange Why pay $70 for a filter and then have to pay another $70 for the damn adapter? I see you found the joys of toiet parts. Nothing like Home Depot Performance parts. A 4" Sewer grommet ($6) works beautifully on Garrett Ballistics GT-35 turbo inlets. Toilet water shut-off valves make good boost controllers, too.

What's the diameter of that flange?
