Taking off the entire timing belt cover

Has anyone taken off an entire timing belt cover on a b16 motor non vtech. If someone has, then were you able to take off the cover without removing the pulleys, and if not, how did you manage to get off the pulleys to get the cover off.

My B18 might be different, but I had to take the crank pulley off because one of the bolts holding the lower cover on is located UNDER the pulley. I had to remove the engine mount, too.

I went to a shop & they loosened the crank pulley with their air impact wrench. Tightened it hand tight & drove 1 mile home. Then I could take it off.

yes you WILL need an impact wrench for that pulley, and you'll need to hammer away with it for about 15 seconds before it loosens up. ok, i'm going to repeat advice given countless times: pick up a new waterpump and install that too. also, if you're going to install anything aftermarket that interacts with your timing belt, now would be a good time to do that too (adj. cam gears, pulley). maybe you should service your other belts too since you're working in that area. my $.02
