Is a TL or CL the type of car you're looking for??

As far as I know, there is no word of a re-design yet. As you may or may not know, Honda likes to keep their cars fresh looking... so new models come out usually every 4 years... in 99 the 2nd gen TL came out... and in 2001 they re-designed the car lightly... mostly making the grille and headlights larger... some other changes were made... and they added the type-S version. It'd seem that 2003 would be the year of a re-design... but its not... i'm assuming they are going to bring out a new TL and CL at the same time.

The 2nd generation CL came out in 2001... with the 2003 models seeing a slight face-lift, and the addition of the manual tranny option.

Honda keeps a pattern... usually... every 4 years they unveil a new body style... and after 2 years running, give the model a face-lift.

Don't forget that the new TSX will be coming soon! It's basically a Euro Accord with acura badges, and it's gonna be sweet! I figured I should mention this since the Accord and CL are brothers in arms, and now their getting a new sibling.

Honda will redesign the TL for the 2004 Model Year, following its 5 year cycle. It will be introduced in the fall of 2003. The CL may be redesigned with it (or possible a year or so later), or it may get axed. Sales have been slumping.

If you want opinions and rumors on what the next TL might be like, go to the news and rumors forum: http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/fo...php?forumid=27

There are a couple very long threads on the next TL with loads of information...do a simple search

Just a little snippit of information I heard regarding the next TL:

Rumor has it over in Japan, the next Honda Inspire (aka Acura TL) will have a Honda version of GM's 'displacement on demand.' If you've never heard of it before, it goes something like this:

The standard 6-cyl engine operates normally under any sort of acceleration. However, once at a cruising speed, half of the engine bay shuts down, leaving 3 functioning cylinders. This technology was once used on a few Cadillacs back in the 70's, and is currently being used on the Mercedes S600. (which has a V12)

Now I'm sure it will be engineered in normal Honda fashion (i.e. flawless). Obviously, the changeover from 3 to 6 cylinders would have to be seamless.....BUT I seriously wonder how 3 cylinders would generate enough steam to keep a 3400 lbs. car plowing along at 80 or 90 mph. Perhaps it is only meant for slower speeds...(?) Either way, it would do wonders for fuel economy.

If you want the link to the article, perhaps I can dig it up again....What do you guys think? Sound reasonable?

vtec.net has consistently been wrong in their predictions. They suck at predicting. They prediced a 3.2 V6 225HP engine in the 2003 Accord when the HAN'ers said 3.0L V6 with 230+ horsepower. The next TL will not get a 6 speed, I will bet my car on it.

I didn't know that....but you saying the next TL won't get a 6 speed, don't they already have a 6 speed TL Type-S?

The CL Type-S has an optional 6 speed, the TL Type-S only has a 5 speed automatic. The TL won't get a 6 speed because it will be even more of a luxury sedan in 2004, and the TSX is the Acura sedan marketed to people who would want a 6 speed.

I pray to god they don't make the TL a bloated land barge. I mean, it is sort of one already - but its stretched out to about as far as it can go before it becomes the ES300. Is this the way you think they're gonna go?

The one thing that I want the most is tighter sheetmetal. I'm not a fan of the huge front and rear overhangs and the 4X4 ride height that the current TL possesses.

The TL as it is is a bundle of compromises. I'd look for an adjustable suspension but a generally more luxury oriented character. I'd say 250HP for the base and 280-285 for the Type-S, with AWD optional or standard. That's my guess.

I hope your guess is right, because that is what I have been hoping for.
