For those who are particularly worried about your transmission, I'd suggest the following:

Since the transmission failure is basically an overheating issue, if you drive aggressively, are seemingly prone to transmission failures, or just want peace of mind, Comptech offers a transmission cooler kit that you can buy. It's normally to be installed with their supercharger but I bet this would go along way compared to any lame oil line Acura is installing.

And fact: Honda's automatics have never been good.

2004 Tl

The road noise is getting loud enough that I may be headed toward my 4th set of tires with only 66k. Will try new struts before tires. Any info on tires cupping prematurely on 2004 TLs?

Try a different brand of tire. The stock Michelins on the TL are pretty crappy.

Struts are not going to help you with road noise, the right tire will. You should read the reviews at www.tirerack.com and see which tire best suit your needs.

Falken ST115's are notoriously known for being a very quiet tire. I have a set on my M3 and they lasted 20K miles plus a season of autocross and they're very good on road noise.

Does anyone have a specific recall or bulletin #? My dad just called me and told me his 01 CL-S started clunking the last few days. It just drops into whatever gear it wants or neutral and the car jerks violently. I just want to know some concrete evidence so we'll have the upper hand when we call the dealer. I had a 00 civic and they tried to give me trouble with relatively simple warranty repairs.

If he has under 100,000 miles, he'll be covered.

I believe you can go to www.acura.com and register for an account and you can enter your VIN and it will tell you if there is a recall or any extended warranty of the tranny.

According to the dealership my dad called they're trying to tell him that they want to just replace the internals and use the same housing? They mentioned something about keeping the left and right housings but I think they must be confused because the transmission should just be 1 big bell housing with all the gears and internals inside.

Did any of you get a rebuilt tranny or were they replaced outright?

I believe most people got a remanufactured tranny.

Right, I talked to my dad and he was told by Acura in Cerritos they would re-use the bell housing and basically replace all the internals. I think he's bringing it in today, looks like about a week till he gets the car back. With the new internals are they still likely to fail again? I reccomended that he just sell the car and get something else.

Got an update, dad brought the car in to Cerritos, Acura. They ran some tests and opened up his tranny. The fluid was still clear and no discoloration on the gears. Service manager said it's early stages and knew that it'd just get worse so basically they kept the car and drove it till something broke.

Now they're giving him a rebuilt tranny and it should take about a week.

Good to hear. Hope that new tranny will last.

I just bought a 2000 TL, 5 months ago. the car has 60k on it. After 20k, i had the check engine light come on twice. The dealer looked at it but couldn't find a problem. Now the SRS light is on constantly. Could it be an electrical problem? Can anybody explain, maybe a similar situation?

First, you can start posting in the correct post or start a new one as this thread has nothing to do with your problem. Second, use the search function.

the short version -

sit in the car with doors closed.

key on (dash lights on, but not starting car), click remote, key off.
do this 4 times, on the 4th time click each remote that you have, twice. that's basically it. if you were successful, you'll hear the power locks click, probably twice.

for more complete instructions, do a search, this has been covered before. also, you will get better results by starting your own post in the correct forum. threadjacking is not polite.

I have a 2003 acua tl type s and it had the trans recall. it has 59,000 on it and the trans oil is darker then the engine oil. It has a slight to moderate shudder between 1st and 2nd gear. Was not able to reprodcue it at dealer. Dealer wants to do a flush at the tune of $250. Do the 2003's built in 2002 have an extended warranty of 100,000 and 7 years?

I'd like to here other people who have the same experiences and what they did.

Your dealer should be able to tell you if your tranny is covered by the extended warranty or not based on your VIN. If not, call Acura Client Service. Do not do the flush, Acura issued a bulletin to all the Acura service dealers not to do the flush.

Get the VIN and call up Acura or your local dealership to see if it is affected.
