Rear Deck Speakers

how do i take em off on a 96 civic coupe?

I pulled them off my 94 Sedan. I can't imagine that they're too different. You get in the trunk and look up at the trunklid. You'll see a set of three bigger screws which actually hold in the speaker grilles. Remove those, then loosen the three screws right around the speakers, unplug, and voila, the speaker comes out from the inside of the car. They are actually really easy to remove.

1. Fold down rear seats.
2. Pull back carpet at lower area seat back and remove two 10mm from each side of passenger's side seat. Work out seat back from between hinges.
3. Remove a 12mm bolt from each hinge and remove hinges. Note positions of washers carefully.
4. Fold back carpet on rear seat back on driver's side. Remove two 10mm bolts and remove both seat backs as a unit. NOTE: They are connected by carpet.
5. Remove one 12mm bolt from hinge on driver's side rear seat back and remove hinge. Note positions of washers carefully.
6. Remove one 10mm bolt from rear of seat bottom cushion and lift rear of cushion to remove.
7. Remove one phillips screw and two retaining clips from each rear side panel. Carefully pry side panel outward to remove.
8. If equipped, pry off child restraint anchor covers and remove 12mm bolts to remove restraint anchors.
9. Pry up seat lock trim ring to remove.
10. Pry rear deack panel upward to release retaining clips. Pull out panel, disconnect third brake light wiring connector, and remove panel.
11. Remove four phillips screws securing speakers to deck. Lift speaker, disconnect, and remove.
12. Connect speakers wiring adaptor of replacement speaker to vehicle speaker connector. Secure speaker to deck with screws previously removed.
13. Test speaker operation and reassemble rear of vehicle by reversing diassembly steps.

In cliff notes version:
Remove backs of rear seat, then remove bottom, remove side pannels(few screws on the bottom, seatbelt bolts, and clips) then remove top deck.....speakers then lift out once unscrewed.

how long should this take? and by bottom do u mean basically the whole back seat?

basically, yeah, the whole back seat. Can be done in well under an hour.

Dont cut corners. you'll break plastic parts and its really sharp, plus expensive to replace....most stuff inside the 6th gen civics requires surronding piece removal to take out....it kinda all fits together like a puzzle to hold everything tight

you can pry some parts out without taking the surrounding ones out, but if you do, you cant get them back in and sometimes they break....if something is blocking you, take it off. it takes just a matter of minutes to take the whole deal apart, or it takes twice as long to try to find a shortcut!

It's a pain in the azz to get to them, so make sure you put in something that you don't plan on taking out for a while, i.e. not some cheap $50 set of 6x9's....
