Default 1999 MT Accord clutch pedal loose then tightens

Recently I had my entire clutch system replaced by Firestone. This includes the clutch, slave and master. It has been a nightmare since. Here is what's going on:

In the morning when I start the car the clutch pedal is really loose and the clutch is poppy and jerky. As the car and weather heats up the clutch goes back to normal until later in the day when I can't shift. I will be at a stoplight and I CANNOT shift into first unless I turn the car off. From there, each gear is really hard to shift into. After about ten minutes the problem goes away and I can shift normal.

This seems like a legitimate problem caused by the work they have performed. I have told them that my feelings (I work on cars somewhat but noway could I tackle the clutch system) is that there is air in the system. They are telling me they can't perform work on it unless they can duplicate which of course they can't because they aren't driving it all day.

I spent $1,100 on the work they performed. They are now telling me to get the tranny looked at. I know that's not the issue because it worked FINE before they got their hands on it. Does anybody have any idea as to what it can be. These guys are idiots. If I can get a couple of opinions from here and then film the issue while it happens then they might believe me. I need to get on it fast though before I do cause some serious damage to the tranny.

It doesnt sound like you need any transmission work done. If the synchros inside the trans were going bad you would have trouble shifting at all times. This sounds like a problem directly associated with the clutch system replacement. To me it sounds like air in the system. The air works its way to the pedal while your car sits in cool weather for an extended period of time. As you drive and the system heats up, it travels through the system until it eventually hits the clutch area itself causing the vehicle not to shift. As it continues to move, the car will be able to shift again and the car works fine. In the morning the process start over again correct? Is that sounding like the symptoms to you?

It sounds like it is either air in the system or your master and slave are going bad. But it sounds like to me that they have already replaced those components so its probably air and they just didn't bleed it all out. Take it back to Firestone and tell them to bleed and service your system. Also tell them to stop jacking you around. $1,100 is no small amount and the fact they want you to see if the trans is faulty is outrageous. I would talk to a manager. Let me now the outcome.

It ended up being the clutch was installed wrong. Had it removed and replaced by a Honda specialist and had my money refunded by Firestone.
