Water on intake
I know that this has been covered before, but never quite clearly.
Is water splashing onto the filter in a short ram a problem, or does the filter need to be fully submerged in order to hydro lock? I'm not talking about gallons of water but small splashes etc.
I just want to settle this as I am seeing tiny amounts of water entering the engine compartment through various openings.
Thanks,
M

Just remember to get out of the car before you go swimming and all will be good

After driving for hours in heavy rain, I've opened my hood to check out my CAI. The first foot of pipe after the filter was wet and dirty....so to answer your question.....water could be "splashing" on to the filter all the time and nothing will happen.
Think of it logically....it's much easier to suck air through a straw than water....so as long as the whole filter isn't submerged only air should make it all the way up the pipe.

honestly you dont have to submerge your car or even your intake to get water into your piping but you have a short ram so in your case u'd have to drown ur car to get water in it

Its like sucking water through a straw. If you suck in a little youll cough. If you suck in too much youll choke (hydrolock). A little bit of water wont do harm. As long as the motor still sparks youll be fine. If it drowns.. youre owned.

I had my CAI about a foot under water when I had to crank it up and move it to higher ground. Water was going inside the doors. Still no hydro lock, but I didn't take it over 3000 rpms.

I want to retract the my last statement about my CAI and water. I lowered my car the weekend 2 1/2 inches and it had been raining all weekend. After driving for about 4 minutes the water from the road clog my filter and stalled the engine. I had to roll off the road and wait about 5 minutes for all the water to pour out of the filter. I was like a 1/4 mile from my house too. I thought I killed it when it happened. I learned my lesson about CAI's.
Ordered the bypass valve when I finally made it home.
