    Question about timing belts...

I am reading a lot of horror stories about peoples timing belts breaking. I bought a 94 accord EX with 122K miles on it and i rev pretty high, like im sure most everyone here does, and am paraniod about this, so i have two questions, one am i needlessly being paranoid? The car hasnt had that rough of a life, its in pretty nice condition, and i was also wondering how much cash this is going to cost to replace...

Any opionions would be apreciated, thanks

    Matt

I have a 93 with 95K miles and rev the hell out of my car and nothing has snaped yet. I think you will be fine. The price - well with the engine in 3 to 4 hundred with the engine out under 100 bucks.

huh???? It's just a Timing Belt, I never heard of people TAKING the engine out just for replace the belt, it's a pain in the neck anyways. A regular Tune up including Replace the belts will be some where from 300 - 500.

but if your Timming Belt BROKE when's driving, you're screwed. A customer in my shop broke the bets, snap off the Fan, water hoses, rad hoses, etc. It's a heck of a job $900+

    So, Don't rev.

Id check the belts to see if theres any wear and tear on them (cracks, dry belts, threading, etc). Doesnt matter how many miles on your car, what matters is the shape of your belt. So yeah Id get it checked to be safe.

i dunno how accord engines are, which i'm 90% sure they are the interference engines like the civics but the recommended change is 90k miles... what happens if it snaps? it leaves your valves open and those wonderful things called pistons like to continue their stroke and i think you get the idea

I wouldn't worry about the timing belt until it is recommended to be replaced.

If it does break, turn your car off immediately and tow it to a garage. Last thing your wallet wants is the pistons crashing into the valves.
