Painted moldings, 1 year later look like crap
Whats the deal .. I used a primer with a flex agent in it and I can't remember if the factory color paint I got had it though.
But now it looks like crap. Most parts are dull and paint gone down to the rubber.
Some parts still look okay but thats maybe 5 percent.
Was there a trick to it that I didn't know about?

Im assuming u sanded it down before adding the flexing agent.
I sanded it down, added flexing agent, then painted it 4 coats plus 3 coats of clears...still good 2 years later.

Painting mouldings is one of the biggest pains in the ass.
Its all in the prep work no matter how you look at it and if you don't do good prep work it shows up.
Try it again and take your time doing it. We did a friend of mines mouldings and it took us several times to get it right..ended up pulling them off and doing it over the course of a day and a half to make sure everything set up exactly right.....looks perfect a year and a half later.
Oh and the mouldings were black on a white car and thats the hardest color to get to work right because the black bleeds through all the time.

how many coats of primer and clear coat as well as the color-matched paint did you use? The time in between coats is also important as well as the climate outside. Sanding down the moldings is also essential for the moldings to stick.

If I remember, I think I did 2 coats of primer...and 3 coats of paint, and I could only put on 2 light coats of clear coat because if I put anymore, it would cause the paint to crack in to tiny pieces. I couldn't figure out why. I redid them a couple of times before they wouldn't crack.

Oh yah, did you sand down the moldings before you painted them?
