When do you hear the knock? My engine makes a slight knocking noise between 2,000-2,500 rpms... I was told a while ago that I was hearing 'wrist pin knock' and that it was relatively common. The noise began at around 80,000 miles and I now have just under 130,000. The valves also make a little racket (especially during cold start-up) but they make a 'tick tick tick' sound rather than a knock. I don't think I've heard an F22 yet that didn't have quiet valves.

Friend with that imfamous 96 Sedan (EX) has about 180K with no engine ticking/knocking, but several transmission issues. heh.

I don't think hard driving is the culprit, my car gets rediculously pampered. I don't recall ever reving the engine past 4,000 rpms since I've had it.

I've had the same problem on a 97 Civic and am now having it on a 2000 Accord EX. Both were 4cly models and both had a mild ticking sound when it was cold. The sound would go away as soon as the engine made it up to operating temp. However, I didn't start noticing this until the engines started approaching 100K miles. Had the valves adjusted on both and no change. Tried additives, tried cleaners (thought I had a clogged oil jet). No luck. Best bet always seemed to just let it warm up before driving on cold days.
