    buying used (w/ mods)

considering buying something online that already has mods done... (93 del sol)

    is this a bad idea?

and... with the mods, will it be less reliable than stock (and how much, if so... which I assume it will be)

the guy claims all mods are done by a "Honda certified master technician"

    mods done are:
Iceman Cold air intake (cool air in one picture)

Reactive Performance filter with heat shield

AEM water bypass valve on intake

    AEM underdrive pulley

    Integra Type-R Intake Manifold

    Adjustable cam gears

    B&M Fuel Pressure regulator

    DC Header

    Tenabe Medallion Exhaust

    Front and Rear sway bars

    Lowered 2" on Intrax Springs

    Front and Rear strut bars

ACT 6 puck clutch and extreme pressure plate

Well since the owner modded it then he probable drove it hard. But since the mods are just basic boltons the engine couldnt have suffered too much. Just treat it like any other used car and have it checked out by a mechanic.
The only effort you should put into a d series is taking it out.

But an Integra Intake Manifold will not fit on a 93 del Sol which only comes as a SOHC D15(S) or D16 (SI). It may fit on a 94+ VTEC model with the DOHC B16.

Has he done an engine sway to a B-series? If not, then he's lying about the ITR IM.

1999 USDM B16A Dual Overhead Cam VTEC engine

83K mile on engine (taken from a 1999 Civic SI) 158K on the body - The odometer was replaced at the same time to match the engine mileage. I ran a carfax before I bought the car and only a minor accident showed up

if its modded, and been ran hard you shouldn't have to pay much. not worth it when tranny is shit or motor is running on 3 pistons

    to quote thoe guy...

    "Vehicle Condition

I'll be very critical here as I would expect the same. Contrary to pictures last week the front bumper was professionally repainted and the fiberglass reinforced from normal scrapes on such a low sitting car. The fenders show a slightly different shade under florescent lights so you would want to repaint if going to an indoor show. Has minor door dings and minor scuffs on the rims from normal wear. Small crack on the windsheild (at the side so it won't expand and isn't very visable). If you intend to race you'll want to replace the 3rd grear synchros for smoother shifting at high rpm's. The driver side low beam has a loose connection (i'll fix it if I get time). The car isn't perfect but it is VERY fine and gets a whole lot of attention. Has new tires with 90% plus tread life left, runs super strong and has received regular oil changes."

sounds like he's blowing smoke up your ass.

I'd assume do it yourself. I'd never buy a modified car, personally. You never know what they did or didn't do to the car. And besides, doing the mods is half the fun.

for "under $10k" you can do quite a bit. Shoot for a 4th or 5th gen honda and work on it. Older parts (engine, suspension, etc) need replacement anyways, and aftermarket allows you to do it better and cheaper than OEM, depending on the companys.

the classic example I use is the 90-93 accord. The car that redifined the midsize market, especially as far as japanese car manufactures go. Maybe I'm more partcial since I used to own one, but none the less, you can aquire one super cheap (under $3k). The aftermarket for them is slim at best, but the good mods are there. Black headlights, red/clear tails, all that good subtle stuff we all like. Plus, they have a few decent kits for it.

but the real gem of the car is how perfect the h22a fits right into it. for under $4000 in addition to the cost of the car, you easily put yourself running high 14s, low 15s in a 12 year old econobox. I'm sure a tubro could easily find its way into there, and if not that, juice and N/A build up. Plus, you still got 4 doors and room for a system. And no one would really see it coming.

I don't understand why it would be anywhere near 10K. You can pick up a 94 vtec (94's had dual airbags and a few other little options) for less that 8K if you shop around. And with the tranny in the shape it's in, I would just stay away from it. Unless you can get it for 6K, don't bother. A 93 S in good shape is about 3000. The swap is about 3000... Take into account that aftermarket parts kill resale value, and you're below 6000 already. And an accident on record? Don't mess with it. I'm still finding problems with my 93 that had a clean record, but had actually been in a front end, and rear end collision...

There is no way in hell that car is worth what he is asking.
You could buy my car and do a c5 swap and still be way under what he wants money wise. I would stay as far away as possible.

I'd say that car's worth about 8,000 mainly 'cause it looks like he didn't do anything half-assed on his car (other than the taillights), and the fact that DelSols are damn hard to find, especially fixed up. as for the mods, there's still plenty to do on that car (steering wheel, seats, harnesses, roll cage, wing, rear end, etc. I say go for it if it stays below or just above 8.
