Default powersteering?

I hear that not having your powersteering hooked up adds some good horse? True? If so, if I just take out the power steering fuse, will that do the trick or will that screw anything up? But how much of a difference will it make?

Welcome to the boards EBPSI. There are threads discussing this topic already. PLEASE use the search tool in the future prior to posting a new topic.

To answer your question, taking the fuse out will do nothing. You would need to take the belt off the pulleys at the very minimum. Doing so will not really add horse power, but will allow more horse power from the engine to make it to the wheels since there is one less component to turn. Also removing all the power steering components will help with weight reduction.

It's called parasitic loss, much like a supercharger. As stated before it's not going to work by simply removing the fuse, you need to at minimum pull the belt or completely remove the system (pump, belt, and the rack). It's about a 50 pound difference if you remove everything, not including the horsepower that is freed up from the crank.

Its not going to gain you that much power......although I don't miss it very much in my accord I do notice it when parrall parking or turning into an equally difficult tight spot....I'd leave it in......

since i put my new motor in i havent had the chance to look into a pump for the b18c. It kinda blows with now ps when your trying to parallel park as stated before. I also noticed when im taking hard corners and such the car feels much more confident in the turn with the ps.

I did it for while because I was lazy after my swap and hated it. Oh, and there are pretty much no gains from removing it. I thought my car felt squirrley (sic) without it. I would'nt bother. The weight saving would be nice if you had a race car.
