been told to use 000 or 0000 fine steel wool and rubbing alcohol on the outside, and to do the same cept with a 1/2 water 1/2 rubbing alcohol mix on the inside, that way if it drips inside the car it won't discolor the dash. never tried it, but been told by quite a few people it works great.

If you haven't changed your blades, then it is time to do so...
Otherwise... Windex is your friend, but then try diluted vinegar if that doesn't help... be sure your blades are clean as well.

my windshield has this nasty residue right in front of the driver put its not where the passenger sits. it stops right where the passenger blade comes over and stops on my side. I think it might be burnt oil residue may i was riding behind a dirty car that was burning oil. I heard using lacker thinner but i havent tried it.
