It's because it's a 96. You have the same engine as the 6th gen civic lx/dx. It's a ****ed up design.

Any intake for a d series 5th or 6th gen should work. 5th=92-95, 6th=96-2000. I'm blanking on your engine code... Too early to think. But the easiest, cheapest swap for some power would be a d16y8. You can get the engine and ecu for about 400 and be up to about 125hp.

You can also swap in a B series motor if you get the correct motor mounts, I believe. I know the S didnt come with a VTEC motor, so the mounts wouldn't hold a B series engine ... I dont know too much about the subject though. Perhaps someone else here does?

As far as the engine code, its on the front of the block. Look at the motor behind the radiator, it will be stamped in the front of the block.

You're right. you don't know much on the subject. Misleading others is bad!

All D series from 92 and up ahve the same motor moutns. S or Si doesn't matter. You could slap in a 5th gen CX hatchback engine if you wanted to. I know for a fact that my 93 sol S chassis was wired for vtec from the factory. I slapped ina d16z6 and vtec worked without any extra wiring. It's the same as a civic dx. Same options, same engine, same everything.
And if you wanted to keep it obd2, like your 96 is, you'd have to maintain your current wiring harness to slap a B in there, or make sure it's an obd2 engine, and that it's not one of the ones that has the lockout on it.

Thanks Bakeoff, I didn't want to mislead. My B series fit right in my 95 Si with no problems.
