Default Check engine light is on :(

and i'm a broke college student...every mechanic shop and dealer i've gone to wants to charge me 80 dollars just to give me the code...

does anyone in the south orange county area (i live in mission viejo) have a hookup at a shop or just know of a place that will check your car's computer and give u the code and what it means for free?

i have a mechanic who can do all the work once he knows what's wrong but the problem is he can't check what the code is

PLEASE HELP!@!@!@!

get a paper clip and stick it in the thingy on the passenger side... turn the key (not starting the engine) and count the blinks........... search google and look for sites that tell you in depth how to do this. very simple.

hmm, i actually found time in my day to work on it but i ran into some slight problems

#1 - i looked underneath/behind the glove compartment and i found 2 blue wires going into a plastic harness which connects to something, i tried to pull it free but the thing just wouldnt' come free so i figured it must be what hte last person said about having to take the glove compartment out, which leads to

#2- how do u take out the glove compartment, there's a good 20 screws and i've undone all the ones that will actually come out without getting stripped and it wont come out, anyone got a site with some pics on it? i looked but i can't find any

There are 2 metal "L"s at the top sides of your glove box. These "L" rotate so you just turn them down and your glove box will openn further than it normally does and you can see where to take it off at that point.

You're specifically looking for a male connector with 2 wires coming out of it. I'll see if I can go take some pics for you.
