You could kill your synchros which would make your shifts a lot harder. You could also damage the gears themselves, to the point that you wouldn't be able to shift into that gear.

buy a new tranny only if you trust the other person, b/c it might up grinding aswell, and your fawked w/ 2 trannys that both are crapped out..my 3rd gear is going bad..gonna but some gear oil in that ***** and hopefully it will stop.
