Default Horsepower Question

If i buy a brand Spankin New Si and i tested it, would it be around 160Hp to the flywheel and around 135 or 140HP to the wheel????

If a company says that a certain car is rated at 200HP and you teated it, would it always be around 200 or at 200HP???

companies will rate their care at the fly or crank, not at the wheels. reason being the number is higher at the crank and sounds better to consumers.

nice thing about the DOHC is simple bolt-ons will add a tad more ponies than an SOHC. But yeah, bone stock they aren't anything special.

For example, Subaru rated the WRX at 227 hp, but it only puts out 160 to the wheels. It loses almost 70 hp transferring power to the ground. The AWD feature is a large part of the problem (although it's nice).

The stock D15B7 is rated at 105 hp, but only puts out 89hp to the ground.

I assume that the B16A2 probably puts out about 130 to the wheels (maybe).

I think you lose like 10-15% power from the drivetrain. So I'd say 135-140ish sounds about right. The new Si's are heavy tanks. The whole beauty of the civic was that it was stoopid light. 99Si was 2612 and in 93 it was 2326(although it only had 125hp) but the Civic's latest incarnation is a tubby 2744. It needs that 160hp to push that tub o' lard. Now if Honda was smart they'd put the Type R Civic out here in the US, But alas we americans get the shaft again. A 200hp Civic would sell stupid fast here.
