RHD convo- front clip weld? - probs.. what to do?
hey... i found a pretty good deal... on a 92 cx hatch shell.. converted in the front witha jdm front clip... kinda wondering about the safety of welding frames like this? Anyone done this? or know anything about it? all i know... for the price it would be a nice RHD... and all ide have to do is paint it... its missing seats, steering wheel, and gauge cluster.... car for 2500... and i can get a b16b for 4000. car and swap 6500... sound good? What kinda problems are there with welding on front clips? Im half tempted to sell my 98 hatch (excellent cond. 36k miles) for around 8g and start this project... what do you think?

I doubt a welded on front clip can be nearly as structurally sound as the unibody that rolled off the production line. Other than that, and the legality issues, I guess there's nothing wrong with it. If you can live with knowing that your chassis is inherently weaker than a stock chassis, and you can get around the whole "why is your steering wheel on the wrong side?" thing, then go for it.

Depending on the people who did it knowing what they were doing you could have a very dangerous car there.I mean why are they selling it sounds like a lot of work to dump for 2500 if your not an engineer that can determine that it is done soundly I'd say avoid it.even more so if you where planning to put a higher HP motor in it.

Honestly, I wouldn't pay that much for a car missing seats and a cluster. I can find a cx or vx hatch for about 1500... But as far as welding clips, one of the guys in a local club I'm in rolled his teg, and the welded a new clip on the front, straightened the frame, and he's been running great for a year... Turbo gsr boosted about 7 lbs last I checked...

I can't see how having a RHD car in a country which drives on the right hand side of the road would be a good thing. Well, unless you want to deliver mail or something...
Maybe I would understand if you wanted to buy a Skyline, but this just sounds dumb.
