1997 Civic: Engine Swap
I have a 97 civic ex coupe and I was wondering what the best b-series engine would be to swap to. I don't want to go too pricey, so b18c5/c1 and even the b16b aren't options. It seems like the B16a2 (is that the same as the b16 SiRII?) would be my best bet, I want the easiest swap possible, with as little complications as possible. I'm retarded and don't know if my transmission is cable or hydraulic, but I know the b16's is hydraulic, is it a pain to convert to that? Also who should i go about buying this engine from? Any reliable names would be great. Thanks.

b16a has both, but since you got a 97, your gonna want the hydro tranny. you could do the first getn b16 but the hasport kit is gonna cost you a pretty penny. the b16a is fun, but a b18b is waaaay more fun to drive. but thats just my opinion. if you do choose to go with the b1ba, get your hands on a jdm one, that tranny comes with lsd. either way, have fun after the swap.

Pull my finger
Buy the engine from Hmotors, ive bought 3 engines from them and i was quite happy with what i got.
as for for the easiest swap possible, you want to have an OBD-2 B16A full swap. That should come with everything you need to get it in the car and start it up. *BTW not all B16s were hydrolic the older gens were cable, but anyways you have hydrolic
*
as for what onebadassdx said, i would probably also go with te b18B. i just think it has more potential....thats just my opinion though

What site is Hmotors? Nothing in Google directs me to a Hmotors site.
Isnt a B16c5 one of the best to run with as a Stock motor if your not planning on beefing it up internaly?

B18C-Type R or B18C5 you mean? ( basically the same engine except B18C-Type R came in Japanese cars, and the B18C5 came in USDM cars, B18C4 *i think European or Austrialian...anyways you get the point....) i would say the type R engines can take a beating for a stock engine.

Your Powder Coater
if you plan to build up the motor, go with the b18b, no need to waste your money on the b18c if u'r going to change the internals & what not..

Ok there are seriously millions of sites that covers many different options about B series engines and swap into every civic. First search, then ask.
My opinion though, if you're gonna do a swap, get something bigger (displacement wise) than a B16.
If you're made of money go with the itr B18C5 motor, can't really get better than that except for a K20a.

Yes there are millions of different sites that were all confusing me by giving slightly different information so I decided to try my luck by posting it. I always "search, then ask." I like having as much information as I can.
Has anyone had major problems putting an OBDI engine for a stock OBDII? Through inspection and/or installation.
