    Underdrive Pulleys

Hey guys I was just woundering what you all thought about underdrive pulleys. I was thinking about getting a set of OBX pulleys. Some of my friends tell me it is a great thing to do for faster acceleration and some would beg to differ. What do you think?

I don't think it really makes much of a diffrence. What mods do you have on your car already? The money can be better spent.

Underdrive pulleys are one of the last mods to do. It doesn't really make a significant difference in power, but if you're a racer like me every little bit helps.

I dont have much done yet just a tcsportline muffler, short intake, short throw shifter, little wait reduction, advanced timing, front stut bar, rear as well, empty cat, basic excedy clutch kit, and my tein s-tech should be here next week. Just the basic stuff. But I do race in autocross. I dont want to stick a whole butt load of money into my car because I have a daughter to take care of, but I would like to improve were I can. Any help is appreciated.

Wel from your mods you look like you are in Street Mod the least. Without R tires you are going to be killed. So what you want to do is focus on getting seat time. Don't worry about mods cause it's not going to do anything to lower your times. Seat time will.

the only one that matters is the crank pulley. if you want power, just remove things that you could get aftermarket pulleys for like powersteering and ac (ac is mad heavy to y0).

ac weighs like 30 pound if you weigh all the seperate peices...and even a crank pulley isnt gonna net you crazy gains.

I remember back when I still owned the accord, people would trash underdrive pullies left and right. Something about them throwing off "harmonic balance"

He has a gutted cat, aftermarket clutch and removed rear stuff. Actually the gutted cat would put him in E Mod.

I wasn't thinking of the clutch... But the cat is easily fixable. Main point being, he shouldn't resign himself to SM, his car could very easily be a sts car.

The accords have balance shafts, and some have harmonic dampeners built into the crank pulleys. The SOHC civic motors don't, and they have a solid pulley so they won't be affected by vibrations from using another solid underdrive pulley.

It certainly won't hurt inything with your current list of mods. It's more beneficial than a lightened flywheel if you ever drag race. I say go for it. It will also help a little with throttle response and downshifting.

Just don't bother installing it yourself without a 1/2" impact wrench, and a 17mm 1/2" impact socket. If you don't use air tools, the motor will turn instead of the bolt coming loose. It's real easy to install with the right tools. Also get the right belts. You won't be able to use your old accessory belts because they won't fit anymore.

I see were all of you are coming from. I am just looking for the things to do to improve my car at the time. I have had quiet a bit of seat time and know very well how to handel my car thats why I am starting with the smaller things first. To see how responsive the whole car is to the HP gains as well as my ability to drive. Also being an autocross racer I know the importance of all around modding of your car. I may not have a lot done know but what I have done seems to be helping so far. What other advise can you all offer. After all I have been doing this for a while but I dont know everything and appreciate other opinions. Thanks

Lose weight every way you can. diet. crap twice before your first heat. or vomit. that's what all the guys in wrestling did... I really should go to bed. I don't think I'm helping anything.

Just installing that suspension you ordered will help better than anything you've done to it yet.
