OBD2 to OBD1 conversion help.

HI i have a 96 civic with a 98 B18c1. Both being OBD2. I want to convert to OBD1 so i have less sensors ad vacuums to worry about in my engine bay. Plus it makes your engine bay so much cleaner. If i get a conversion harness and an OBD1 ecu, is it all just plug and play for my setup?? Do i need a new distributer or anything?? Also what ecu should i get. A p28 that is chipped or something. Or find like an OBD1 gsr or type r? Right now i am using my stock engine wiring harness. Could i just get an OBD1 harness from an OBD1 gsr?? Or would i need an OBD1 harness from a civic? If i got an OBD1 harness then would i need the conversion harness?? Thanks for your help.

You don't need to change anything on your engine harness to run an OBD2 car off an OBD1 ecu.

Nothing would have to be changed, but you will still need to use your current harness, just with an adaptor between the wiring harness plugs and the ECU itself. I'd assume everything an OBD I ECU required would already be there with an OBD II wiring harness so it's probably just plug and play.

Any particular reason you want to do this? Seems like a lot of money to invest to get rid of a few sensors and vacuum lines. You really can't see any of the additional sensors and OBD II uses and I'm not really that aware of any additional vacuum lines anyway? You can use a chipped P28 to control it (OBD I P72 GS-R ECU's are rare since nobody wants to break up a complete swap) but you will lose your knock sensor and secondaries control. I'm also not a big fan of programs that raise or remove the revlimiter (most custom programs do) on a stock valvetrain engine, there's no benefit and a lot of risk of floating a valve. If the motor runs with the OBD II ECU and your not getting any CEL's, stick with what you've got.
