    rpm under 1000??

after changing my oil 2 weeks ago my car was soundin weird??? it sounded a lil too quiet.....so i looked at the rpm gauge and the needle sank below the 1000rpm mark....so i notice hmmm thats weird??? i asked my dad he thinks its the ECU ....but i thought it had something to do with the car's power....so we tried to reset the computer by unplugging the positive on the battery...but its still the same....wen i turn on the car da rpm drops to about 900rpm....then when i turn on the headlights it drops to about 700rom....the heater - about 650rpm.....the stereo - 400rpm.....then i start to feel as if the car was going to stall......can it be my alternator????? my bro in law thinks a capacitor would help it lil because i hav a system hooked up.....got any comments..hook it up???? THANKS

I thought an idle of 800rmp was normal. But when I turn on my headlights, the rmps increase to compensate for the draw of power. I don't think it has anything to do with you changing your oil.

To correctly reset your ECU, follow the instructions here: http://www.inflictions.com/5ghb/file..._resetecu.html

Most of that sounds pretty normal. How can you tell that it is at 400 rpms? The small line about a mm away from 0 is 500 rpms.

I agree with copperfox. When I turn on stuff like headlights and A/C, my rpms go up. Go to autozone and get the stuff b16a said tested.
